STREET AND COMMUNITY OUTREACHES
Bring Me Home Project
About The Project
KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA recognizes street outreaches as an important avenue for reaching out and rescuing children in street situations.
Therefore, KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA has been and continues to conduct regular outreaches targeting children living on the streets of Kampala and surrounding towns plus other districts of her operations. Rescued children are supported with various services to make them leave the streets.
In addition, community outreaches and awareness programs are conducted in our areas of operation particularly slum dwellings where abuse of children’s rights is high. During outreaches, communities are sensitized on the rights of children. It is during community out reaches that vulnerable children and families are identified for support by KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA and through referrals to other agencies.

KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA runs a transitional Centre where rehabilitation services are provided to children identified from streets and vulnerable families. At the centre, children access a wide range of support services including medical treatment, shelter, nutrition, psychosocial support and skills training. During rehabilitation, child home tracing is done to aid reintegration of children with their families/communities. Every year, over 400 children benefit from our psychosocial support services.
It’s a natural fact that children do not belong in institutions, Reintegration forms an integral part of our functions as an organization. With the support of KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA social workers, children that have been rescued and undergone rehabilitation at KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA are prepared for reconciliation, resettlement and reunification with their families and communities. This process is conducted in partnership with government representatives; district/local government authorities, civil society actors together with recipient families.

Since inception, KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA has successfully rescued and reintegrated over 385 children from streets
Since inception, KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA has made remarkable contribution in the education of children by supporting children in vulnerable situations to enroll in school and acquire basic education and skills. Vulnerable children from the surrounding communities as well as those rescued from street situations have been supported to enroll at KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA’s Future. Beneficiary children are further provided with scholastic materials and other costs of education. Children with diverse talents in Music, dance and drama as well as sports are given an opportunity to exploit such talents for their future survival and livelihood.

In a bid to ensure proper growth and development of children under 6 years of age, KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA has been and continues to work towards strengthening the care environment for growth and development of children as well as protection from abuse and exploitation. In this direction, an ECCD centre has been set up to provide quality ECCD services to children. An integrated and holistic approach that is child centered and community based to promote and strengthen the capacity of vulnerable families and communities as the first line of action to address child protection, survival and development issues has been adopted to provide an all-round environment for children
The Community Self Help Groups (CSHGs) for vulnerable groups with common vision and purpose. CSHGs are mobilized and nurtured by KAWEECHIPA-UGANDA to encourage group savings and investment in small businesses to sustain their families. The CSHGs targets both vulnerable families especially the women and vulnerable youth between the ages of twelve and twenty two years. The project is aimed at equipping and empowering vulnerable households with financial skills to be able to save, start IGAs and support children in school as a measure to prevent outward street migration of youth and children and to empower the young people to be economically productive and independent so as to be able to make a positive contribution within their communities. To-date, 21 Community Self Help Groups have been established.
